You're holding it together on the outside. Inside is a different story.

In-person therapy serving clients across Rhode Island.

You're holding it together on the outside, but inside you feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or stuck. Maybe you work in healthcare or another high-stress field, and you're burned out. Maybe you have ADHD and struggle to stay organized and in control, and it's starting to spill into your relationships.

I help adults work through ADHD, burnout, stress, and trauma, with a particular focus on healthcare professionals and other high-functioning people who are quietly running on empty. I also work with high-conflict couples facing communication breakdowns and the strain that builds when stress goes unspoken.

How I Help

Every person comes in with a different mix of pressures. These are the areas I work in most, and most clients arrive with more than one at once.

ADHD

Building real structure and follow-through, so staying organized and in control feels less like a daily fight.

Practical support for people running on empty, especially healthcare workers and high-functioning professionals who look fine on paper.

Burnout and Chronic Stress

Trauma

A steady, supportive space to process what you've carried and move forward.

For people who hold a lot together for everyone else and have quietly stopped checking in with themselves.

High-Functioning Adults

Working through communication breakdowns and the strain that builds when stress goes unspoken, so you can actually hear each other again.

High-Conflict Couples

In our work together, we focus on practical, meaningful change. We set goals collaboratively, focus on the areas that matter to you, and work toward change you can feel in daily life. My approach is straightforward and tailored to what works for you.

About Erik Stenglein

I'm a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with more than 20 years of experience across mental and behavioral health, hospital and acute medicine, child welfare, and foster care and treatment foster care licensing.

My focus is on creating a comfortable, supportive therapeutic environment while helping you identify and shift the beliefs and behaviors that get in the way of healthy functioning. I believe treatment goals are best developed collaboratively and should center on the areas that matter most to you.

I draw on a range of approaches to fit each person, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), with an emphasis on problem-solving, coping skills, communication, and tools that support recovery across the lifespan.

I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and my master's degree in social work from the same university, both with honors.
